NEWS RELEASE-INDIANAPOLIS DAY OF UNITY RALLY

Indianapolis Day of Unity Rally

IMPD to celebrate police-community relations in September

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #86 will host a Day of Unity rally on September 5, 2014, from 11: 30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., on the south spoke of the Circle in downtown Indianapolis.

The Day of Unity rally is an opportunity for the public and police officers to say thank you to each other, to remember the department’s fallen officers, to pray for victims of violent crime, and build positive relationships.

Citizens are invited to meet and mingle with officers from the Downtown District and Special Services Units.  They are also encouraged to wear t-shirts, buttons, or other items showing their support for fallen IMPD officers and others who have lost their life to violence in our city.

Over the past 18 months the IMPD has lost two officers in the line-of-duty and six active duty officers to other causes.  Additionally, there are families throughout the county suffering from the loss of a loved one by violent means.  Police-Community partnerships are crucial to reducing crime, the fear of crime, and improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods.

Additionally, officers on each of the IMPD service district will conduct mobile roll calls on every shift September 5, 2014.  The public is invited to attend these roll calls and meet the officers from their district. (List of times and locations is attached)

The Day of Unity rally is the kick-off to a month of scheduled events where the public and IMPD officers can take time get to know one another and build lasting relationships.  A schedule of events is attached.
