Fatal Traffic Collision Involving Metrolink

On September 2, 2014, at approximately 1517 hours, officers responded to the area of Buena Vista Street and San Fernando Boulevard regarding a single vehicle collision with a Metrolink commuter train that was traveling southbound.

Initial reports indicate a grey Toyota Camry, traveling southbound on Buena Vista Street, attempted to circumvent the activated railroad crossing arms when the vehicle was struck by the train.

The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to a local hospital due to injuries sustained. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Emergency Room personnel provided notification to the family, and the Coroner was contacted. The driver has been identified as Burbank resident Khalil, Fawaz (M/79).

There were approximately 135 passengers on board the Metrolink train at the time of the collision. While there were no significant injuries, a few passengers were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic Bureau personnel will be continuing their investigation into the traffic collision. Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Traffic Bureau at 818-238-3100.
