Details:
On 08/27/2014 at approximately 12:26 pm Gilroy Police Officers responded to the 7800 Block of Princevalle Street for an in-progress violation of a temporary restraining order. It was reported that the suspect was Ronny Lee Humphrey. Responding officers were aware of a pending stalking case listing Humphrey as the suspect. During the past 30 days, Gilroy Police Officers investigated approximately six cases relating to restraining order violations by Humphrey. Family members of Humphrey are the protected parties in all of the investigations.
As officers arrived on scene, Humphrey left the area in a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and attempted an enforcement stop. Humphrey failed to stop and led officers in a multijurisdictional pursuit to unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County and the City of Morgan Hill. Officers with the California Highway Patrol also assisted during this pursuit. At one point during the pursuit, Humphrey called the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department to inform officers that he was armed.
Humphrey led officers back to the city limits and Gilroy Police Officers assumed the pursuit for a second time. In the interest of the safety of the public; and fearing that Humphrey was heading back to the city to harm the protected parties, a pursuit intervention technique was utilized to disable Humphrey’s vehicle. As officers attempted to approach Humphrey’s vehicle, he purposely accelerated his vehicle in the direction of two officers in an attempt to continue to evade arrest. Ultimately, Officers were able to block all escape routes and took him into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported during this arrest. No weapons were located in Humphrey’s vehicle.
Humphrey was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail where he was booked on the above noted charges. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Gilroy Police Department Detective Corporal Matsuhara at (408) 846-0350.
