On August 21, 2014, Temple Station Detectives, along with members of the Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Counterfeit Anti-Piracy Enforcement Team (CAPE) and Department of Homeland Security Investigations personnel (HSI) served a search warrant at a business located on the 1800 block of Tyler Ave in the city of South El Monte. The culmination of a month long investigation revealed the business was distributing and tampering with Chinese made “knock-off” military and police style tactical equipment. The merchandise was illegally branded under product names, such as, EOTech holographic weapon sights, Magpul, Oakley, Cree tactical lighting, and other items bearing the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certification symbol.
Detectives seized approximately $400,000 in counterfeit merchandise and arrested the proprietors of the business on felony charges of manufacturing and sales of counterfeit items and forgery of public and/or corporate seals. The business owners were booked at Temple Station.
