Advisory

Recent scams in area!

The Bordentown City Police Department wants to advised City Residents and Business Owners that there have been various scams that have been occurring within various townships in Burlington County.
The first scam is regarding an unknown suspect calling and advising that they are a Sheriffs Officer for Burlington County. The suspect will state that you have missed jury duty and there is a warrant for your arrest. The suspect will demand that you obtain a Green-Dot money card and bring it to the Burlington County court facilities so you don’t get arrested. The Burlington County Sheriffs Department advised that they do not contact anyone and request any type of payment over the phone. If you receive a call regarding this hang up immediately!

Another scam that is happening throughout the area is where suspects come to your home. The suspects advise that they are with a utility company and there is a problem with your home. The suspects advised that they need to enter your home to view or fix the problem. The suspects will then attempt to distract you while the second suspect disappears and looks for valuables. The Bordentown City Police Department wants to remind everyone that Utility Companies (PSEG, Verizon, Comcast) will not come to your door like this. If this occurs to you, do not allow the person to enter your home. Contact the Police immediately and they can confirm that the person is an actual employee of the Company.

Another scam that is occurring is where a person will call and advise that they are with Microsoft and there is a problem with your computer. The person will want you to log on to your computer and disable all firewalls and anti-virus programs. The person will then advise you to complete a set of instructions what will allow them to obtain any personal information which can be on your computer. Again the Bordentown City Police Department reminds everyone that Microsoft will not contact you in this manner.

Please be careful whenever anyone calls you and requests information. If you believe the person calling you appears to be a scam end the call immediately!

Thank you,
