On Wednesday, August 13, 2014, Hope Mills Police Officers responded to the Steeplechase Subdivision in reference to multiple residential and vehicle break-ins that occurred overnight on Seabiscuit Drive, Jockey Whip Lane, and Citation Court. During the course of their initial investigation, Officers learned that some of the homes were occupied during the break-ins and that the suspect entered the residences while the occupants were sleeping. Officers found that the suspect had stolen electronics, several dirt bikes, an ATV, and a white in color Chrysler Sebring vehicle during the break-ins. Officers recovered one of the stolen dirt bikes during the search of the area and later that day, recovered the Chrysler Sebring after locating it on the railroad tracks near Johnson Street.
Over the course of the next several days, Hope Mills Police Detectives developed information that led to the execution of a search warrant on August 19, 2014, at a residence located in the 5900 block of Player Circle in Hope Mills. During the course of the search, Detectives located electronics, and personal items such as ID’s and credit cards stolen during the Steeplechase break-ins. Detectives also located one of the stolen dirt bikes as well. After executing the search warrant, the Detectives arrested Max Golden Johnson, 23, of the 5900 block of Richfield Avenue in Hope Mills for the break-ins that occurred during the night of August 13, 2014.
Mr. Johnson was charged with:
5 counts of Break and Entering of a Motor Vehicle
1 count of Larceny of a Motor Vehicle
5 counts of 1st Degree Burglary
3 counts of Larceny after a Breaking and Entering
4 counts of Possession of Stolen Goods, and 5 counts of Felony Larceny.
Mr. Johnson, who is currently on parole for a previous Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle conviction, is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $697,000.00 secured bond for his charges. This investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are likely.
