Gloucester Township Police Media Release: Alert Citizens Tip Leads To Arrest Of A Subject With An Imitation Firearm on 8-13-2014

On Wednesday August 13, 2014 at 9:05 PM, an alert citizen contacted the Gloucester Township Police Department, reporting that he observed a subject handling a handgun in the area of the Campus Plaza located at the intersection of Peter Cheesman Road and Erial Road. Officers arrived on location and met with the caller who had continued to observe the subject while officers responded and directed them to an area behind the plaza.

Once there, the officers observed Reynaldo Hernandez holding an item in his hands. He was immediately ordered to drop the object and show his hands which he did. After being ordered to the ground, Mr. Hernandez was secured by the officers. The object that Mr. Hernandez dropped was found to be an ammunition clip for and airsoft handgun that was filled with metal BB's and soft pellets. The airsoft handgun was located near Mr. Hernandez and found to have the red tip of the gun colored black to match the rest of the handgun. Mr. Hernandez stated that he was behind the store looking for items to shoot.

Mr. Hernandez was eventually transported to police headquarters where he was processed and charged with Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. He was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility on default of bail.
