Washington Police has an important message for you! Scam phone calls received by area residents winning cash & car.

Reports have been received from some area residents reporting that they have been getting calls stating they have won cash and/or a car. In order to get the prize they need to provide a down payment of a few to several hundred dollars by either going to a Western Union at Rite Aide, or other means. The callers have stated they are from the Scottish Lottery or Publishers Clearinghouse. Most calls have been reported by older residents.

Anyone receiving a call like this should NEVER give out any personal or financial information to the caller. Collect as much information as you can (who are they representing, where are they, a phone number to contact them back, how did they get your contact information) and report it to a local law enforcement agency or your state's Attorney General's Consumer Protection Office.
