Earlier this morning, August 7, 2014, detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau arrested Roberto Torres, male Hispanic, 25 years of age, for grand theft. The arrest took place at Roberto Torres’ residence in the city of Baldwin Park. Suspect Torres was volunteering as a bicycle mechanic at the monthly “Bike San Gabriel Valley” event, which is held the last Sunday of every month at various parks. On May 25, 2014, after being told that his services were no longer needed, Suspect Torres asked a rider in the event if he could borrow his bicycle in order to look for his father. He fled on the bicycle and was not seen again until this morning as detectives knocked on his front door in the service of a search warrant. A pawn ticket to a Pawn shop in the city of El Monte was located with Suspect Torres’ property. Detectives responded to the Pawn shop and recovered the stolen bicycle valued at $1,600.00.
Suspect Torres was booked at Industry Station and is being held in lieu of $20,000.00 bail. The case will be filed with the District Attorney at El Monte Court on Monday, August 11, 2014.
