Search Continues for Murder Suspect

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook announces that Investigators have identified a murder suspect wanted in connection with yesterday’s shooting on Ervin Street.

CPD has outstanding arrest warrants for Christopher Demetric Robinson (DOB: 1-17-1979). He is wanted for Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

The initial investigation indicated that Robinson argued with the male victim who was visiting the 2300 block of Ervin Street.

A CPD Officer who was on routine patrol in the area was flagged down by people at the scene. When he arrived, the Officer saw them rendering aid to the victim.

EMS was immediately requested while dispatchers sent additional police officers to the scene.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where medical staff pronounced him deceased.

Robinson allegedly shot the victim several times and left the scene towards Center Street with an unidentified female.

Officers set up a perimeter including a K9 track to search for the shooter.

Chief Skip Holbrook says, “This deadly shooting happened at a time when communities celebrated National Night Out. This crime should serve as a reminder why violence won’t be tolerated. Residents provided information to Investigators because they want criminals to be held accountable for their actions.”

Investigators continue to receive information from witnesses at the scene.

While Investigators continue to determine a motive, they do not believe this was a random act of violence. The victim was acquainted with the shooter.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting CPD with the investigation.
