SAVE THE DATE ! – NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IS ONE MONTH AWAY
“National Night Out is San Mateo Neighborhood Watch’s signature event, and represents the very best in partnership between the community and the police. Neighborhoods that watch out for each other are safer and help the Police to stop and solve crime. If you are not already involved in Neighborhood Watch, this is a perfect time to join!”
- Chief of Police Susan E. Manheimer
The City of San Mateo and the San Mateo Police Department invite you to participate in NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2014!
On Tuesday, August 5th, San Mateo, like many cities on the Peninsula, will be participating in National Night Out. Always the first Tuesday in August, this national campaign is designed to raise crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood unity and spirit, and develop partnerships between the City and the community.
This has also traditionally been an opportunity for Neighborhood Watch groups to get together, and for those who do not have one in their area to start new Neighborhood Watch groups. To learn more about Neighborhood Watch and National Night Out 2014, browse the Neighborhood Watch page on the SMPD website:
http://www.cityofsanmateo.org/index.aspx?NID=1781
The City of San Mateo is supporting the original spirit of National Night Out by inviting residents to turn on their porch lights and getting out to meet their neighbors in informal block gatherings and activities. When residents on a block know each other, the neighborhood and the community is safer and stronger.
City of San Mateo neighborhoods celebrating National Night Out continue to increase every year – last year there were over 50 block parties City-wide - spread the word in your neighborhood and register your block party early! Many blocks annually register to participate in the event. Some blocks are have ice cream socials, some are have barbecues, and others are just have residents turn on their porch light between 6:30 and 9:00 PM. Each participating block decides how they want to gather together with their neighbors.
If your block is a Neighborhood Watch block and you register, we will send a Police representative to visit your event. If your block is not currently part of Neighborhood Watch, this is a great opportunity to get your neighbors interested in joining this valuable crime prevention program.
There is still plenty of time for interested blocks to register in this community-wide focus on crime prevention. The event is open to all residents and blocks in the City of San Mateo. To register your block (by Thursday, July 31st , 2014) you may:
1) Download a registration form from the City’s website (www.cityofsanmateo.org) and fax it to 522-7711
2) Register by phone - Call Officer John Rink: 650-522-7744
3) Send an interest email to [email protected]
Please help us make your neighborhood safer and take a stand against crime. Please report all criminal behavior, join a neighborhood watch program, and help anyone that might fall victim to a crime. If a Neighborhood Watch doesn’t exist on your block, you can start one with help from SMPD.
