6/20/2014, press release: Accident

On June 20, 2014 the Burlington Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident vs. a pedestrian on S. Winooski Ave at College St. The Burlington Fire Department Engine 1 was waiting at the traffic light on College St. when the incident occurred, and several firefighters witnessed an SUV, operated by Andrea Bannister, strike a pedestrian, later identified as David Miller, 52, of Burlington.

Miller was immediately transported to FAHC ER for non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition. The SUV, occupied by Bannister and 3 others, did not sustain any damage; all occupants were wearing their seatbelts and were uninjured.

Investigation revealed the accident was caused by negligence on the part of Miller. Witnesses on scene stated that Bannister had a green light and Miller was walking across S. Winooski Ave., as the Do Not Walk signal was displayed, when he was struck by Bannister’s vehicle.

Miller was issued a ticket for violating city ordinance 20-135, pedestrians’ obedience to directions and signals.
