Fatal Traffic Collision Under Investigation

On June 13, 2014 at 12:11 AM Ceres Police Officers arrived on the scene of a solo vehicle collision at the 2900 block of Roeding Road. The involved vehicle appeared to have been traveling westbound Roeding Road when it lost control and flipped over several times in a dirt field south of Roeding Road and west of Mitchell Road. It is unknown if the driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Officers found the 27-year-old female driver unresponsive, lying in the dirt field with major injuries. Officers called for emergency medical personnel and together they attempted life saving efforts with no positive results and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

It took several officers to detain an uncooperative, emotionally distraught man whose involvement in the collision was unknown at the time. After a brief struggle with officers, he was detained, questioned, and later released with no charges filed.

Mitchell Road was closed between Don Pedro Road and Whitmore Avenue and Roeding Road was closed between Mitchell Road and Vernal while the Ceres Police Traffic Unit was conducted the traffic collision investigation. The Traffic Unit concluded a preliminary investigation at the scene at 6:00 AM, at which time all roadways were re-opened.

The victim has been identified but her name is not being released at this time pending notification of her family.

This collision is still under investigation and
Traffic Investigators are encouraging witnesses or anyone with information regarding this case to please contact Officer Keith Kitcher at (209) 538-5620.
