An Oakland man has been arrested by San Mateo Police after community members alerted SMPD to an in-progress vehicle burglary early Sunday morning. SMPD K9 “Hero” assisted responding officers by making his first official suspect apprehension!

At about 1am on Sunday Morning June 8th, SMPD Officers were called to the 3600 block of Colegrove Street on an interrupted vehicle burglary. As officers were confirming multiple window-smash burglaries in the area, an alert community member reported the fleeing suspects location, and a perimeter was quickly set. Officer Martin and his K9 Partner “Hero” aided the process by conducting yard searches for the hiding suspects. Hero located 20 year-old Oakland resident Wilton Robinson hiding in a yard on nearby Mulryan Court, and aided SMPD Officers in the apprehension of Robinson. Robinson was quickly and positively identified as one of the suspects. A second suspect, described as a Hispanic Male, was not located. However, all property from the 4 window-smash auto burglaries was recovered along the path made by the fleeing suspects.

SMPD Detectives are following up on this case to identify the second suspect, and to determine if these suspects are responsible for additional crimes.

Robinson was booked into San Mateo County Jail for the vehicle burglaries and possession of stolen property.

SMPD thanks the public for providing us with critical and timely information leading to the arrest of this suspect and recovery of the property, and congratulates our K9 Hero on his first suspect apprehension – the first of many, we are sure!
