NEWS MEDIA INFORMATION REPORT
SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Multi-car personal injury accident
DATE AND TIME: 1330 hours on Friday, June 6, 2014
LOCATION: M46 East of Fitzner Road, Cato Township.
The Montcalm County Sheriff's Office is investigating a three vehicle accident that sent three men to the hospital. The incident occurred when a male from Illinois, driving a 2002 Mitsubishi headed westbound on M-46, attempted to pass a semi-truck ahead of him. After attempting to pass the Mitsubishi driver realized he did not have enough room to complete the pass due to oncoming traffic. The Mitsubishi driver then drove to the shoulder of the roadway onto the gravel which caused him to lose control of his vehicle. The Mitsubishi driver then sideswiped an eastbound 2005 Chevy Impala. After the Mitsubishi struck the Impala, the semi-truck which had been passed was unable to avoid striking the Impala. The semi-truck then struck the Mitsubishi which caused both to go off the roadway and into a swampy area. A white commercial van was able to avoid being struck by the semi-truck as the driver took evasive action and drove into the ditch.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was transported from the scene via Ambulance to be treated for head and arm injuries. His passenger, a Barryton man, was also transported via Ambulance for unknown injuries.
The driver of the Chevy Impala, a Mt. Pleasant man, was transported from the scene via Ambulance to be treated for several injuries including severe facial injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck, a McBain man, and the driver of the commercial van were uninjured.
Montcalm County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted on scene by Lakeview Fire Department, Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, and Captain Hook Towing.
