Alert Citizen Notifies Police of Burglary in Progress; K9 Aerie Helps Officers Locate Suspect

Case: 14-22671

Anchorage Police would like to thank the alert citizen in this case who called in suspicious activity, ultimately helping officers interrupt a burglary in progress. APD would also like to recognize the great work of K9 Aerie in helping police locate and apprehend one of the suspects.

On June 5, 2014 just before 1:00 a.m. Anchorage Police Dispatch received a report from a citizen of a suspicious white van backing up to a fence on the 100 block of Orca Street and two male subjects who appeared to be stealing items from the property. APD Officers responded to the scene and located one of the suspects, 26-year-old Rick Moa, in the passenger seat of the white van. Moa was apprehended by police without incident. Moa had a warrant for his arrest and was taken to the Anchorage Jail.

APD K9 Aerie located the second suspect, identified as 52-year-old Mark Jaime, in the fenced area of 131 Orca Street. K9 Aerie was able to locate Jaime who was kneeling with his head down, wedged behind a wooden box. After Aerie located the suspect, police gave Jaime commands to come out of the area and he was taken into police custody without incident.

Both suspects were charged with Theft 2, Criminal Mischief 4 and Burglary 2.

Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation of criminal wrongdoing. All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty by a court of law.
