Notable Cases
On Monday, 05-26-14 at 5:24 p.m., Sergeant Mike Brennan was on patrol and stopped a vehicle for a vehicle code violation at Oakridge Drive and Mira Vista Avenue. The driver tried to exit the vehicle before the sergeant could approach him. Sgt. Brennan said the driver appeared extremely nervous and was moving around in the vehicle. When Sergeant Brennan asked the subject if he had anything illegal on his person or in his vehicle, he said he didn’t. He allowed the sergeant to search the vehicle, and he admitted to having drugs in his vehicle. The subject, a 47-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia (glass pipe).

The driver, a 24-year old San Francisco resident, had two outstanding warrants and immediately was placed under arrest. The passenger, a 23-year old Daly City resident, also had a warrant and was placed under arrest. The officer brought both subjects to the station in order to complete booking paperwork. The passenger asked to use the restroom. Officer Shane Hart inspected the stall after the subject used the restroom, and in the toilet paper housing unit, he found two small bags containing a white powdery substance. The toilet stall had been cleared prior to the subject using it. She was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance—cocaine and methamphetamine and for destroying/concealing evidence. Both subjects were transported to jail.
On Sunday, 06-01-14, at 6:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Sheffield Drive and John Daly Boulevard on a report of a subject holding a hatchet and hammer in his hands walking in the area. The reporting party, a driver stopped at the intersection, said the subject, described as a white male in his 50’s with long curly gray hair and wearing a light blue jacket and jeans, was holding both items together and making noise with them. Officer Robert Kett located the subject and detained him. He found the hatchet, and the subject said he used it for protection as he had just gotten into a dispute at a homeless encampment near the golf course. The subject, a 51-year old transient, was cited for brandishing a weapon.
After hearing information about a subject in a homeless encampment area, officers went to the Wilshire walkway and located a 55-year old Daly City resident who had an outstanding warrant for attempted murder and for a probation violation. He was taken into custody.

Scams/Other
Gold Bar Scam
This scam recently occurred in San Leandro, and I would like to share it with you. A female victim was shopping at the Target store at the Bayfair Mall when she was approached by a male and a female who told her they needed her help with a dying relative. The suspects were able to convince the victim to withdraw $1,400 from her bank account, and in return for her help, she would receive a “gold bar” from the suspects. The gold bar was not real.
I caution you to not feel prey to someone’s “sad stories”. These people are very good at what they do, and they seem to have the knack to select innocent people.
