Gloucester Township Police Media Release: Male Surrenders To Police After Barricading Himself With Several Firearms In A Storage Unit
Officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department responded to the South Jersey Self Storage facility on a request from the Runnemede Police Department in an attempt to locate a subject who may have had a change in mental status. Officers confirmed that the subject was at the facility and when they approached the subjects unit, they discovered that the male had barricaded himself inside of the 10' X 8' storage unit. Officers immediately established a perimeter around the unit and placed a nearby business in a "Shelter-In-Place" for the safety of the workers while the incident progressed. Contact was also made with family members who stated that the male may be in possession of several firearms.

The Gloucester Township Special Response Team along with the Gloucester Township Crisis Negotiation Unit then arrived and established contact with the subject. Eventually, the subject peacefully surrendered to police after about one hour. He was transported to JFK Hospital Cherry Hill, NJ for medical clearance. A search of the unit revealed five firearms, three rifles and two handguns, that were recovered by officers for safekeeping.
