Gloucester Township Police Media Release: 19 Pounds Of Marijuana, Assault Rifle, Large Capacity Ammunition Magazine, Discovered During Harassment Investigation

Officers following up on a harassment investigation discovered an alleged marijuana distribution operation during a search for an assault firearm at a local residence on Jarvis Road in Erial, NJ.

Officers originally responded to the Timber Creek High School after receiving a report that an adult non-student male made a comment that he had an assault firearm in the trunk of his motor vehicle as he was leaving the school following a meeting with school administration. This comment was overheard by a school staff member who quickly notified the school resource officer. The school resource officer then requested additional officers to assist with the investigation. The officers responded to 1110 Jarvis Road to follow up with the investigation and a search warrant for the residence was obtained. During the search of the residence, officers and detectives recovered several firearms including an AK47 type assault rifle and a large capacity ammunition magazine for the weapon. Also discovered was a large amount of high grade marijuana in trash bags and mason jars. An additional search warrant was obtained based which resulted in the discovery of more marijuana packaged similar to what was originally found, packaging material, scales, an automatic money counter, safe and $12,000.00 in US Currency.

The accused, Michael Shaffer, was transported to the Gloucester Township police Department where he was processed and remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility on default of $110,000.00 full cash bail.
The investigation revealed that at no time was there any danger to students or staff members.

Charges: Harassment, Possession of an Assault Weapon (2nd Degree), Possession of a High Capacity Magazine (4th Degree), Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (2nd Degree), Distribution of CDS within 1000 Feet of a School Zone (3rd Degree), Distribution of CDS (2nd Degree) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
