Incident: False Report of Crime Results in School Lockdown
Suspect(s): Unknown
Summary:
On Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 1220pm, Petaluma Police Dispatchers received a report of an armed residential burglary in the 1600 block of Cabernet Court on the eastside of Petaluma. The male reporting party (suspect) identified himself with a name that matches the name of the resident (victim) that lives at the house. The phone number provided by the suspect matches the victim’s old phone number with the exception of the last digit. The reporting party (suspect) told dispatchers that there were armed subjects with hoods breaking into his home and that he was barricading himself in his bedroom. The subjects were reported to be armed with handguns and baseball bats.
Multiple units were dispatched to the call and quickly established a containment perimeter. Meadow Elementary School is located behind the residence and was placed on lockdown for the safety of the children. Once on scene, officers made contact with three people who live at the house in question. They told the officers that nobody had called from that house and they did not have a problem. Officer made sure the house was safe and secure and began an investigation into the false report of the crime. Preliminary information has revealed this may be related to the victim’s personal information being shared on the internet.
The school was released from lockdown. This false report of a crime is currently under investigation. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Officer Bert Walker at 707.778.4455 or by anonymous tip at 877-TIPS-247 or 877-847-7247.
