On May 6, 2014, at 6:15 pm, Officers were called to the area of Main Street near Sharon Avenue on a report of a person shot. When Officers arrived, they located Jesus Villegas Mendoza, a 23 year old man, who had been shot. Mendoza was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The investigation has revealed Mendoza was driving home to his family after work on Main Street when gunfire erupted. A bullet went through the windshield striking Mendoza. Detectives believe Mendoza was not the intended target and was his killed by a stray bullet.

Mendoza was a resident of Stockton and a family man. He had a wife and in 2012 became a father. Mendoza was also a Minister at a local Stockton church for the past three years and worked with the youth and participated in Mission works.

Today, May 13th, Detectives are releasing the name of a suspect who is wanted in connection to this homicide: Keith Denegal Jr., a 17 year old male, 5’8” and weighs 130 pounds. There has been a No-Bail Felony Homicide Arrest Warrant issued for Keith Denegal Jr. Detectives believe he is still in the Stockton area and is considered armed and dangerous.
