Operation Take Back NJ - Medicine Disposal Day

Bordentown City Police Department wants to inform residents that we will be participating in the “Operation Take Back New Jersey”. We will be hosting Operation Take Back New Jersey as part of the National Take Back Initiative medicine disposal day. The event will take place at the Carslake Community Center (207 Crosswicks Street) between the hours of 10am and 2pm on Saturday April 26, 2014. This initiative, open to all residents, was organized to encourage local community residents to properly dispose of their unused, unwanted and expired medicine.

This statewide effort, with the majority of New Jersey police departments participating, is being spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) New Jersey Division, the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the NY/NJ HIDTA, and the New Jersey National Guard. Residents looking for additional information on the program and local collection sites should visit http://www.dea.gov

The Bordentown City Police Department is concerned with the alarming trend in the misuse and abuse of prescription drugs, with the potential access to these drugs coming from the medicine cabinets of family and friends. Medicines left unattended or disposed of carelessly are a danger, whether it’s through accidental ingestion, illegal use, identity theft, or contamination of water supplies. The Bordentown City Police Department urges all city residents to dispose of all EXPIRED or UNWANTED prescription and over-the-counter medications during the National Take Back Initiative. All residents who dispose of expired or unwanted prescription and over the counter medications shall remain anonymous. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will dispose of these controlled substances in a safe non-hazardous manner, preventing these pills from falling into the hands of juveniles or into the illicit market in our community.
