DATE / TIME OF INCIDENT: 4/23/2014 1:25 pm

ARREST LOCATION(S): N/A

INVESTIGATING DETECTIVE(S): Detective E. Teng

SUSPECT(S): Unidentified

On Wednesday, April 23rd 2014, approximately 1:25 pm, a guardian of a student at Dayton Elementary saw a suspicious male standing in the main hallway of the school. This subject was described as a Hispanic man, 58–65 year old, wearing a red windbreaker with black sleeves, black pants with a thin white stripe on both sides and a black baseball cap.

This subject was seen peering through a window, into a patio area adjacent to one of the kindergarten classrooms, with his hand tucked inside his pants. According to the guardian (witness), this subject was moving his hand in a way that it appeared he was masturbating. When the subject saw the witness looking at him, he immediately turned away and walked off campus.

It is unknown whether or not this subject is a parent/guardian of one of the students. None of the students or faculty members were harmed as a result of this incident.

The witness immediately notified the principal of what had transpired.

The San Leandro Police Department was notified on Thursday, April 24th 2014, a little after noon.

This case is actively being investigated by the Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Lieutenant DeCosta said, “The safety of our students is a priority and this type of conduct will not be tolerated. Our investigators will work alongside San Leandro Unified School District personnel in an effort to identify this subject and prevent any future incidents from occurring.”
