LOCATION: Loon Lake, Evergreen Township
Montcalm County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of man in the water after his boat had overturned on the eastern side of Loon Lake.
The investigation found that a sixty-one year old Crystal man had flipped his twelve foot aluminum boat more than one hundred yards away from shore causing him to go into the water. A neighbor woman spotted the Crystal man in the water and called 911. The woman along with her female neighbor then attempted to retrieve the man by using a paddle boat to reach him however their boat also overturned. The Montcalm County Dive Team and the Crystal Township Fire Department arrived and were able to reach the people in the water and bring them to safety. The Crystal man was transported by the Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services to Carson City Hospital where he was treated and released the same evening. It is believed that the man was in the water for at least a half hour before being rescued.
Life jackets were not being worn by any of the people involved.
