Notable Cases
On Tuesday, 04-08-14 at 7:03 p.m., officers were dispatched to Gellert Park on the report of four to five teenagers carrying concealed firearms in the park. As officers approached the clubhouse at the park, they contacted five subjects, and two of them were holding what appeared to be semi-automatic pistols and pointing them down at the ground with their fingers on the triggers. The officers told the subjects to place the pistols on the ground, put their hands up and slowly take two large steps back from the weapons. The weapons were determined to be air compressed BB guns, and they were not loaded. The factory orange barrel inserts that signify the pistols are not real had been removed and had the appearance of real pistols. The subjects advised they are high school seniors, and they were filming a class project that promotes the second amendment and the right to bear arms. The subjects said they didn’t realize the consequences of their actions in a public setting, and it wasn’t their intention to put anyone in danger. Both the school and the parents were advised of the situation. The subjects were released to their parents, and the BB guns were confiscated.
On Tuesday, 04-08-14 at 2:15 p.m., Officer Cameron Newton and Officer Lucas Taylor were dispatched to a residence on the unit block of Shelbourne Avenue on a report of a disturbance between a homeowner and another male. The officers contacted a subject sitting in a vehicle in front of the house. The subject was manipulating objects in the rear seat as officers approached the vehicle. The subject said he was involved in an argument and that he just wanted to go home. Officers smelled alcohol on the subject and asked if he had anything illegal in his vehicle. The subject avoided eye contact and said he didn’t. The officers were concerned for their safety after observing the subject’s nervous demeanor and his movements in the backseat, and they searched the vehicle. They found a 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun (assault weapon) under the seat cushion. The shotgun was reported stolen from New Mexico. The subject said he had the weapon “for protection.” The subject, a 26-year old El Sobrante resident, was arrested for transporting an assault weapon, possession of an assault weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and for possession of stolen property.
On Wednesday, 04-09-14 at 2:29 a.m., Officer Patrick Dolan was on patrol in the area of Vista Grande Avenue and San Diego Avenue when he saw a subject pacing up and down the sidewalk. As the officer approached the subject, the subject looked up and down the block as if he was looking for somewhere to run. When Officer Dolan asked the subject what he was doing, he said he was “high”. The subject had a pipe commonly used to ingest methamphetamine in his jacket. When the officer tried to place the subject in handcuffs, the subject resisted. The subject, a 43-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and for resisting arrest.
On Wednesday, 04-09-14 at 9:20 a.m., two Daly City fire trucks collided into each other at the intersection of Crocker Avenue and Brunswick Street. Two firefighters were transported to San Francisco General Hospital and treated for their injuries.
On Saturday, 04-12-14, at 11:00 p.m., Officer Nick Ottoboni was on patrol in the area of East Market Street and Mission Street when he tried to stop a vehicle for a vehicle code violation. The vehicle failed to yield to the police car’s emergency lights for several blocks. Both the driver and the passenger fled while the vehicle was in motion, and then the vehicle collided into a parked vehicle. The passenger was found a short time later on Station Avenue. The officer found several items taken from an auto sales business on Mission Street. (The business was the victim of a commercial burglary earlier that night.) There were also bolt cutters and work gloves in the vehicle. The passenger, a 28-year old Newark resident, was arrested for being in possession of stolen property, stolen burglary tools, resisting/evading arrest possession of identification of 10 or more persons and possession of forged notes.
On Sunday, 04-13-14 at 5:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the 500 block of Skyline Drive on a report of a shooting. When the officers arrived, they located one male and one female suffering from gunshot wounds. Both subjects were transported to the hospital, with one of them suffering from life threatening injuries. There is no suspect information at this time, and the Investigations Division is continuing this investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Senior Detective Francis Mangan at (650) 991-8092.

“Little Boxes: the Legacy of Henry Doelger”
Did you know there is a documentary film about the “Little Boxes”? Three weeks ago, I attended a free screening of the 45 minute documentary celebrating the life and works of Bay Area real estate development icon Henry Doelger. Mr. Doelger was a pioneer of Mid-Century Modern design, and this film shows the concept of Westlake and how it was built from nothing. Having grown up in a Doelger home, I found this film fascinating. There is one more upcoming free showing of this documentary on Wednesday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the Gellert Library in the Community Room. It should be noted that the time was changed from 7:00 p.m. (They may show it again at 7:00 p.m. if too many people attend.) I encourage you to attend. You will be pleasantly entertained!
Inaugural “Swinging Skirts” LPGA Classic comes to Daly City
The inaugural 144-player women’s professional golf tournament will be held at the Lake Merced Golf Club between April 21 and 27, marking the first return to the Bay Area by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) since 2010. Residents should expect an increase in visitors to Daly City throughout the tournament, with the largest crowds expected on Saturday April 26 and Sunday April 27. Due to the limited parking available at the Lake Merced Golf Club, spectators driving to the event will be directed to park at the Colma BART Station, Pacific Plaza and Westlake Park. Golf fans are encouraged to volunteer. For more volunteer information, please visit www.SwingingSkirtsLPGAClassic.com.
