Town of Jackson Public Works crews disrupt water service to Budge neighborhood See attached email/link

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TOWN CREWS DISCONNECT LINE FROM PUMPHOUSE TO 12 INCH MAIN

Jackson, WY.  Town of Jackson Public Works crews disrupt water service to Budge neighborhood to disconnect pumphouse line to 12 inch main.

Budge hillside continues to move and movement has further stressed the connections in the Town of Jackson Water Pumphouse.  Due to the slow moving landslide, the pumphouse has continued to move downhill increasing concerns for emergency response personnel and Town of Jackson officials.  Public Works personnel will dig through Budge Drive today, disrupting domestic water service to Budge Drive for approximately 8 hours, in order to disconnect the line from the pumphouse to the 12 inch water main in the public right of way.  This action will relieve any pressure on the 12 inch main from the continually sliding pumphouse.  Limited water service will then be restored to the Budge neighborhood using an alternative line.

Unified Command asks motorists to be aware of Public Works and Emergency personnel working in the area and use extra caution.

Engineering, geology, and Public Works crews continue to work with George Machan of Landslide Technologies to design and plan the placement of an emergency stabilization buttress.

Yesterday afternoon, the Jackson Town Council voted to authorize an additional $700,000 in emergency funds for the Budge Drive incident.   The Budge Drive landslide continues to move slowly approximately one inch per day and at some survey points movement up to 12 inches horizontally and 12 inches vertically since original measurements were taken.  Survey points along the eastern and western edge of the slide show zero movement allowing engineering and geological experts to better identify the boundaries of the slide.

The high risk area is now a ‘hard closure’ area to allow emergency personnel and public works crews complete access to the area for the stabilization and water utility work.  Residents outside of the identified high risk area will be allowed to return to their residences on foot under a release of liability.  Residents will be advised that should they choose to return to their homes, they assume a level of risk and release incident command and the Town of Jackson from liability and they must secure permission from private property owners to cross their property in order to return.  Residents will not be able to utilize Budge Drive to gain foot access to their units.

Residents accessing their homes on foot are asked to not park in the private business parking lots of the Hillside complex as parking is limited and are reminded that permission is needed to cross private property to access their unit.
