Parks Bureau Mounted Enforcement Deputies arrest man for Possession of Burglary Tools, Obstruct a Police Horse and Possession of Graffiti Tools

On March 11, 2014, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies from Parks Bureau Mounted Enforcement Detail where conducting mounted patrol at the 72nd Street Equestrian Arena and River Trail in Long Beach when they observed a male Hispanic adult leave a homeless encampment adjacent to the arena.

When the suspect saw the deputies riding in his direction, he began to run from them on foot. While one of the deputies chasing him on horseback followed him through a chain linked gate, the suspect slammed the gate into the horse’s face. The horse was not injured but startled. The deputies followed the suspect who jumped a fence into a backyard. An officer from the Long Beach Police Department was in the backyard on an unrelated matter. He detained the suspect for the deputies.

The deputies identified the suspect as Javier Guadalupe Lopez 38 years old, a resident of Compton.

After further investigation the deputies discovered burglary tools and vandalism tools on the suspect.

Suspect Lopez was arrested and booked at Century Regional Detention Center and is being held in lieu of a $5,000 bail.
