PG&E Scam Popping Up in Davis

Over the last week, the Davis Police Department has received numerous calls regarding a PG&E telephone scam. Those notifying the Davis Police Department are reporting a telephone call from a subject identifying himself as a PG&E employee. The "employee" goes on to tell the caller that they have an outstanding PG&E balance and their utilities will be turned off if the balance is not paid. The caller, in some cases, has asked that the balance be put onto a MoneyPak card. PG&E will never ask their customers for financial information and if there is doubt as to who is calling, hang up and call PG&E at (800) 743-5000. As of now, the calls have targeted businesses, however, residents in surrouding communities have been targeted as well.

If you receive such a call, do not take any action until you are able to confirm an outstanding balance through PG&E. Please take the necessary precautions to safeguard yourself, family members, and neighbors from this scam.
