On Sunday, April 13, 2014, at approximately 12:30 PM, deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station responded to the 3600 block of West Avenue K-14, Lancaster, regarding a gunshot victim. When the deputies arrived at the location, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Further investigation revealed the shooting victim and shooting suspect were familiar with one another from previous arguments stemming from a road rage incident. Shortly before the shooting occurred, the suspect, 26 year-old Long Beach resident, Eric Deshawn Holliday, drove past the shooting victim’s house, staring at him. Bothered by the suspect’s action, the shooting victim drove to a neighboring residence where Suspect Holliday was visiting.

The confrontation lead to an argument between the two, and the shooting victim threatened Suspect Holliday with a knife. Suspect Holliday responded by retrieving a handgun and shot the knife-wielding man one time before driving away from the location. Deputies were able to confirm he had fled to Long Beach, and coordinated with Long Beach Police Department personnel to have Suspect Holliday detained.

Deputies responded to Long Beach from Lancaster to take custody of Suspect Holliday. He was subsequently booked at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Ex-felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ex-felon Discharging a Firearm. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at Antelope Valley Municipal Court on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. Charges are pending against him for his role in the confrontation.
