The Explorer Academy Graduation - MPPD Expands the Explorer Program

Thursday night, April 10th, 2014, six new Menlo Park Police Explorers graduated from the 78th Explorer Academy. These graduates participated in a 9 week (7 Sundays, 2 Saturdays) academy held at the College of San Mateo. During this academy the explorers learned the basics of Law Enforcement such as Traffic Control, Evidence Searching and Processing, Search & Rescue, Crime Prevention, First Aid and CPR just to name a few. These six new explorers bring the Menlo Park Police Explorer Post total up to 16 explorers. The Menlo Park Police Explorer Post has not had those numbers since the 1980's.

The Explorer Program is for youth between the ages of 14-21 who want to learn about law Enforcement. The explorers participate in ride-alongs with the officers, security and community outreach at special events, traffic control and child fingerprinting. The explorers are constantly training to learn the role of police officers. They will be putting their training to use this summer when they compete in a national conference and competition held in Bloomington, Indiana.

Come out and meet some of the newly graduated Menlo Park Police Explorers as they sell See's Candy for Easter as a fundraiser to fund their trip to the National Conference and Competition. They will be fundraising on Sunday, April 13th, at Fremont Park from noon to 2pm and Saturday, April 19th, at The City of Menlo Park's Easter Egg Hunt at Burgess Park starting at 10am. The explorers would like your support and would love to share their experience with you.
