Pediatric nurse accused of poisoning her daughter before bringing the child to her workplace for treatment

There will be a media availability today at 3 pm at 601 Lockwood with investigators.

A northwest Harris County woman who worked as a pediatric nurse last year has been charged with injury to a child/serious bodily injury for poisoning her pre-school age daughter with salt before bringing the child for treatment to the hospital where she worked.

The defendant is Katie Alice Ripstra, 31. According to court documents, the child, now 4, recovered from a brain injury caused by high sodium levels and is no longer in her mother's custody.

During one of her admissions to Texas Children's Hospital in 2013, the child was treated in an intensive care unit for three days.

Ripstra is free on a $30,000 bail bond pending trial. Her mug shot is attached.
