Southern Pines Police Department Announces: Accreditation Review Completed by CALEA Assessors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
April 10, 2014

Southern Pines Police Department
Announces:
Accreditation Review Completed by CALEA Assessors

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA) completed their evaluation of all aspects of the Southern Pines Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services on April 9, 2014 after 4 days of intensive review. The results of the assessment will be submitted to the CALEA Commissioners in July at the CALEA conference in Chicago, Illinois for formal review and hearing to determine re-accreditation recognition. The re-accreditation status will remain in effect for 3 years, when another evaluation of the agency is required to continue with accreditation status.

The assessor verification process is voluntary and utilized by the Southern Pines Police Department to ensure it meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards in retaining its accreditation status, a highly cherished recognition of law enforcement provisional excellence.

The Southern Pines Police Department received their initial Accreditation by CALEA in 2011. Only 55 other law enforcement agencies in North Carolina have earned this prestigious status to date.

“The benefit of achieving national accreditation provides the community with a highly trained and professional police department that delivers a high level of policing services. In turn, the community receives services from the Southern Pines Police Department that is backed by policies/procedures that is ingrained in best practices in policing. It is our goal to provide our community with a police department that is dedicated to public safety and service in partnership with our citizens with emphasis on being professional, effective and efficient. Accreditation allows for exceptional police services and is reviewed by outside policing experts as a means of checks and balances. We remain committed to our honored role for keeping our community safe and we utilize accreditation as a means to achieve this goal. I remain proud of the men and women of the Southern Pines Department with their progressiveness, commitment to the community and their profession through this accreditation process.” Chief Robert Temme
