Lancaster Station Detectives have been receiving calls from victims who had hundreds of dollars taken from them by means of a new phone scam. The suspect or suspects would pose as representatives from the electric company and demand immediate payment for false delinquent bills or shut-off the power to the victims’ home or business if payment was not made.
If anyone receives a call which seems consistent with this method, they should not make any payments over the phone but instead contact their respective utility company directly to confirm the validity of the delinquent bill.
Lancaster Station Detectives are also urging any victims in the Lancaster Station jurisdiction who believe they had been victimized by this method should contact the station at (661) 948-8466. Any other victims should report the incident to their local police agency.
