The month of April has been designated Distracted Driver Awareness month by the Office of Traffic Safety. Distracted driving is a broad term and it refers to all things that distract the driver while operating a motor vehicle. Distracted driving can consist of putting on make up, reading the paper, having your pet in your lap, eating and using your cell phone; this includes talking on your cell phone, texting, face booking and “selfies” while driving. Studies show talking on your cell phone while driving decreases the brain activity required to drive by 37%.

The Chula Vista Police Department has teamed up with Best Buy in Chula Vista. Best Buy has created a gift card incentive to customers purchasing blue tooth or hands free devices during the month of April. As they put it, Best Buy wants to “keep you safe and connected”. Coupons provide a $5 gift card with a $50 purchase, $10 gift card with a $100 purchase, and a $20 gift card with a $200 purchase.

Printer coupons are available to the public at the Chula Vista Police Department front counter, Chula Vista Store Front located in the Otay Ranch Mall and the National City Police Department front counter. If you are unable to pick up a paper coupon an electronic version of the coupon is available in-store to all patrons. This coupon can be redeemed at the Best Buy located at 59 North Broadway in Chula Vista.
