POLICE INTERRUPT BURGLARY AT HIGH SCHOOL

Modesto, CA – . Police responded to an alarm call at a local high school and encountered two suspects. At least one officer fired at a vehicle leaving the scene. No officers were injured.

At about 12:45 am today, patrol officers were dispatched to the Johansen High School stadium to investigate a silent alarm. The alarm activation indicated that glass had been broken from the press box at the stadium. Officers arrived within three minutes and observed two men running eastbound across the football field from the west side of the stadium.

The men ran to a parking lot on the east side of the stadium and they attempted to flee in a white Chevrolet pickup. One of the officers broadcast via the police radio that the driver of the truck had attempted to run an officer over with the truck. At least one officer fired upon the truck during the encounter.

Officers stopped the truck as it fled westbound onto Creekwood Drive and then northbound onto Claus Road. One of the occupants in the truck sustained a minor, non-life threatening, gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The identity of the two men will be released in a follow-up press release anticipated for noon today.

Modesto Police detectives, along with personnel from the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, are investigating the incident. The involved officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated. Both are standard procedures in officer involved shooting incidents.
