A 26 year old Crystal man is behind bars in connection with a felonious assault that occurred over the weekend.

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a stabbing at 12:50 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 in the 8000 block of East Sidney Road in Crystal Township. The deputies found a 24 year old Crystal man with a single stab wound to the abdomen. Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services transported the injured party to Carson City Hospital and he was later transferred to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids. The victim underwent surgery and was reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect, the victim’s 26 year old brother, had fled the scene prior to the Deputies’ arrival. Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit was called in; however, the suspect could not be located. He was later located during the evening of April 5 and arrested without incident. He is expected to be arraigned later today, April 7.

The motive for the assault is not known and alcohol appears was involved and may have played a factor in the assault. The Carson City Police and Michigan State Police also assisted Deputes with the investigation.
