Welcome to our Law Enforcement Family Class #398! #LASDFamily #LASD

Twelve female and fifty-one male Deputy Sheriffs, as well as eight male and one female Police Officers from the Culver City, Montebello, Santa Paula Police Departments; and the California Department of Insurance, graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Training Academy in Whittier during ceremonies held on Friday, April 4, 2014, at the College of the Canyons.

Dr. Jerry Buckley, Assistant Superintendent/Vice President, of the College of the Canyons delivered inspirational remarks to the graduates and their guests.

As part of the graduation, a badge-pinning ceremony was conducted, with the new Deputies and Officers receiving their badges from a family member or loved one. After receiving their graduation certificates, the graduates were officially sworn in as peace officers by Sheriff John Scott.

In a special segment of the ceremony, Officer Samuel G. Hawkins of the Culver City Police Department, was named the Honor Recruit for Class #398. This award is given to the recruit who achieves the highest numerical average based upon leadership qualities, academics, marksmanship, and physical performance throughout the training period. Officer Samuel G. Hawkins was also named the Academic Recruit for graduating with the highest academic scores.
