SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Car/Pedestrian Crash
DATE AND TIME: Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 3:22 p.m.
LOCATION: Howard City Edmore Road near Bollinger Road, Richland Twp
The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office investigated a car/pedestrian crash that occurred on Howard City Edmore Road near Bollinger Road in Richland Township on Sunday, 3/30/14 at approximately 3:22 P.M.
Deputies determined that an eastbound 2000 Chevrolet pickup driven by a sixty-two year old Mason man struck a sixty-one year old Vestaburg man who was in the roadway. The Vestaburg man had been picking up cans along the edge of the road when he suddenly ran across the road without first checking for traffic. The pedestrian was transported to Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma and was later flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw by Flight Care where he is reported to be in critical condition. The driver of the pickup and his fifty-seven year old female passenger were not injured.
Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, the Richland Township Fire Department, and Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services.
