Notable Cases

On Wednesday, 03-19-14 at 4:20 p.m., Officer Louis Jackson was dispatched to the Lucky Supermarket on Mission Street on a report of a female juvenile in custody for petty theft. The loss prevention officer advised that he saw the 15-year old female suspect conceal three vodka bottles in her purse and walk out without any attempt to pay for the merchandise. The loss prevention officer stopped her outside of the store and brought her back to the loss prevention office. The suspect became uncooperative and would not provide her full name or her parent’s name. The suspect called the officer several profanities and then punched the video surveillance monitor in the loss prevention office, causing damage to the monitor. The manager signed a citizen’s arrest, and the officer transported the suspect to the police department. The suspect’s mother came to pick up the suspect, and the suspect started screaming profanities at her, and she also spit on Officer Frank Wood who was monitoring her in the interview room. The suspect then made statements that she wanted to kill herself. She was transported by paramedics to the hospital for mental evaluation. A complaint is sought for petty theft, malicious mischief, and battery on a police officer.

On Thursday, 03-20-14, at approximately 6:35 p.m., an 18-year old Daly City resident was the victim of an attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon (knife). This occurred as the victim was entering her parked vehicle in the Sam Trans/BART parking lot located at the intersection of Hill Street and D Street. In addition, she was the victim of an attempted carjacking as the suspect was attempting to flee the scene. The suspect, a 26-year old Daly City resident, was detained by a Broadmoor police officer a few blocks away and was positively identified by the victim and other witnesses. He was arrested for attempted robbery, attempted carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats from an incident that occurred earlier in the day. The victim was treated at Seton Hospital for stab wounds to her face and leg.

“Little Boxes: the Legacy of Henry Doelger”

Did you know there is a documentary film about the “Little Boxes”? Last week I attended a free screening of the 45 minute documentary celebrating the life and works of Bay Area real estate development icon Henry Doelger. Mr. Doelger was a pioneer of Mid-Century Modern design, and this film shows the concept of Westlake and how it was built from nothing. Having grown up in a Doelger home, I found this film fascinating. There are two more upcoming free showings of this documentary. I encourage you to attend. You will be pleasantly entertained!

Sunday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. at the Millbrae Public Library in Community Room A.

Wednesday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Gellert Library in the Community Room
