Deputies Equipped with AED Save Man’s Life.

Sheriff's deputies quick response with an A.E.D. is being credited with saving a mans life early Saturday morning.
On March 22nd 2014 at approximately 2:54am, 911 dispatchers received a call of a man not breathing and in cardiac arrest in the 1800 block Oakridge Parkway in southern Vigo County.
Honey Creek Fire-Rescue was dispatched, and 911 dispatchers asked for any Sheriff’s unit to assist.
Deputy Jason Washburn immediately advised that he would respond, as did Reserve Deputy Jack Schoffstall - who was out on a traffic stop.
Chief Deputy Clark Cottom said deputies were first on the scene and upon arrival found a 49 year old male not breathing and with no pulse.
The two deputies immediately connected their issued A.E.D. and began C.P.R., Cottom said.
After multiple shocks being delivered, and the life saving C.P.R., the man began breathing on his own and regained a strong pulse.
"Quick response by the deputies and the A.E.D. saved the man’s life.", Cottom said.
The Sheriff’s department equipped patrol vehicles with the A.E.D. device about two years ago.
Deputy Washburn is a four year veteran, while Schoffstall is a reserve deputy who was volunteering his time to serve the community.
