Palmdale's 2014 Focus Neighborhood Survey Results #LASD
On Saturday, March 1st, 2014, a survey was completed for the 2014 Palmdale Focus Neighborhood Area. The selected area was Sierra Highway to 15th Street East and from Avenue P-8 to Palmdale Boulevard.
Deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station and Community Oriented Policing (COPs) unit were joined by LASD Explorers, Palmdale Station Volunteers, employees from the City of Palmdale, and volunteers from the community.
A door to door survey was conducted of approximately 1500 residences (including single-family homes, multi-family homes, and apartments). Although each home was visited, not all homes were occupied at the time. Approximately 340 surveys were completed on the day of the survey by participating residents. Blank surveys were left at all residences where no one was home so they could be completed and returned to the Sheriff’s Station.
The results of the survey showed that the primary criminal concerns of the residents were narcotics and thefts; the primary nuisance concerns were run-down buildings and traffic. The majority of the surveyed residents requested the narcotics problem be addressed first in the area.
During the remainder of the year, the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station and the City of Palmdale will direct resources to work together with community members to address the concerns of the Focus Neighborhood.
On Thursday, March 20th, 2014, at 6:00pm a Town Hall Meeting was held at the Palmdale City Council Chambers to announce the results of the survey and to discuss the plans to improve the Focus Neighborhood. All residents of Palmdale were encouraged to attend and join in the information sharing.
Representatives from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station and the City of Palmdale were in attendance, as well as several residents from the Focus Neighborhood Area.
Near the end of the year, a Town Hall meeting will again be held to present the level of success in the Focus Neighborhood. The date and time of this meeting will be announced later.
