Advisory

On Sunday night 2 pedestrians seated at a bus bench near The Triangle were robbed by 3 males who used pepper spray

On Sunday March 16, 2014, shortly after 6 pm, two males were seated on a bench on the west side of The Triangle, at 1870 Harbor Blvd, facing Harbor Blvd. The pair were approached by three males who were on foot. Two of the suspects demanded the cell phone held by one of the seated males. One of the suspects grabbed the phone out of the hand of the first victim. Upon moving to retrieve his phone, one of the suspects sprayed orange foam directly into the first victim’s face. The foam, determined apparently to be pepper spray, immediately caused an intense burning sensation. Another suspect grabbed the second victim’s backpack which was resting on the bench, just prior to all three suspects fleeing the area on foot. No suspect vehicle was seen. Police were unable to locate the suspects.

The pepper sprayed victim was treated at Hoag Hospital for minor injuries to his face. Clothing and a wallet were some of the belongings contained in the second victim’s stolen backpack. The male suspects were described as African Americans in their mid-20’s, 5-8” to 6-2”, and having medium builds.

No further details are available at this time. Detectives are currently investigating this incident. Anyone with further information is encouraged to call the CMPD Detective Bureau hotline: 714.754.5205.
