BRIEF NARRATIVE AS TO CIRCUMSTANCES:
NPD Patrol officers responded to a complaint of a possibly impaired driver spinning “donuts” in a parking lot on State Access Road. Patrol located the vehicle in the area and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle drove away. Patrol initiated a vehicle pursuit and the suspect continued operating his vehicle in a reckless manner, running stop signs, running red lights, and driving around stopped traffic. The suspect eventually proceeded northbound on US 101, whereupon CHP was requested to take over the pursuit. CHP assumed the pursuit and later utilized pursuit intervention tactics to stop the suspect vehicle near Golf Course Dr. in Rohnert Park. CHP officers took the suspect into custody at the scene. NPD Patrol responded to the area and took custody of the suspect. Following his medical clearance at Petaluma Valley Hospital, the suspect resisted officers and battered one officer when being taken to the patrol vehicle for transport to jail. No injuries or property damage were reported.
Suspect Richard Goldsmith was booked at Marin County Jail for reckless evasion of a peace officer, suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, battery on a peace officer, and multiple vehicle code violations.
