Sheriff’s Officials Locate Vehicle Used in Violent Home Invasion

Vigo County Sheriff’s Officials have identified the suspect vehicle used in the home invasion and armed robbery that occurred in southern Vigo County on March 4th, 2014.
The vehicle was found abandoned and burnt in the rural Prairieton area.
The vehicle was a gold 2003 Dodge Stratus 4-door, and had been reported stolen 24 hours earlier from the 2300 block of South Center Street in Terre Haute.
Chief Deputy Clark Cottom said there were multiple shotgun blasts to the vehicle including to the passenger door, rear fender, and back glass area.
The bullet that struck the passenger door pierced the door traveling through the passenger compartment.
“If the suspects were not struck by bullets they are extremely fortunate”, Cottom said.
Detectives did check area emergency rooms on the morning of the home invasion; however no patients had been brought in suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical facilities are required to report to law enforcement, patients seeking medical treatment from gunshot wounds.
The home invasion occurred around 3:17am on Halt Dr. - a quiet subdivision just east of the Vigo County Fairgrounds.
Two suspects forced their way into the home, displayed a pistol and demanded cash and marijuana from the tenant - Levi Bedwell.
Bedwell was kicked and pistol whipped by one of the suspects. Guns were pointed at both Bedwell and his live in girlfriend, as the suspects threatened to kill them.
As the suspects fled the residence, Bedwell fired multiple shotgun rounds at their vehicle.
Both suspects were described as white males in their 20’s. One suspect was tall and thinner, while the other suspect was described as stockier.
The suspect’s weapons were described as semi-automatic pistols, and it is believed that one was silver.
The suspects made off with several hundred dollars in cash and a Sony laptop, however no marijuana was found by police inside the Bedwell home.
After receiving tips and conducting several interviews, detectives have two persons of interest, Cottom said
Forensic evidence from the scene is also being closely examined by crime scene technicians. Detectives hope to match scene evidence to possible suspects.
Cottom also noted that the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.
Detectives are still seeking information and are asking anyone with information on the suspects to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 812-462-3226 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 812-238-STOP.
