Subject: Fatal Accident USH 151
On Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 2:02 a.m. the Sun Prairie Police Department was dispatched to a car versus semi accident on USH 151 at Columbus St. It was determined that a 4 door passenger vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of USH 151. The vehicle was believed to be traveling without headlights illuminated. The vehicle eventually struck a semi-truck and trailer head-on causing severe damage to both vehicles.
The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old male from Sun Prairie, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The name of the driver is currently being withheld to provide adequate time to notify family members. The driver of the semi, Marcel Strelow, 63, was seen by EMS while on scene and released without injuries.
Based on the investigation at this point, we do not expect charges to be filed. Toxicology tests still need to be processed. This investigation, like all traffic-related deaths in Dane County, will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s office.
This investigation was assisted by personnel from State Patrol, Dane County Sheriff’s Department, Sun Prairie Fire Department and Sun Prairie EMS.
