Auto Burglary - 6500 blk of Portola Dr:
Sometime during the last two weeks, it was determined that an unidentified suspect slit the roof to a 1998 Jeep and stole property.
Shoplifting and Warrant Arrest- Safeway 11450 San Pablo Avenue
At 0750 hours, Officers responded to a report of a theft of alcohol and the suspect was last seen westbound on Cutting Boulevard. The suspect, a 20 year-old man from Richmond, was located on Cutting Boulevard at So. 38th Street. The man was positively identified by an employee of Safeway as the theft suspect and two bottles of alcohol were recovered. A records check by the officer revealed the man had an outstanding warrant for embezzlement from Marin County. The officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of the man and booked him at the El Cerrito Police Department. The man was released with a citation for the theft and for the warrant.
At Risk Missing Person – 500 blk of Albemarle:
At 1847 hours, Officers were dispatched to the report of an 83 year-old woman who had been missing for several hours on a cold and rainy day. A grid search yielded negative results. The CCCSO Search and Rescue Team and the ECPD’s K9 responded to assist with the search but were cancelled when the woman was found in San Pablo by a concerned citizen.
March 2nd
Possession of a Controlled Substance- San Pablo Avenue and Moeser Lane
At 1627 hours, an officer contacted a pedestrian who was carelessly jaywalking across San Pablo Avenue. The officer searched the 42 year old man from Pinole and found suspected methamphetamine. The officer booked the man and released him pending the results from the lab for prosecution.
Public Intoxication- Safeway 11450 San Pablo Avenue
At 1710 hours, officers responded to Safeway for a report of an intoxicated woman who was unconscious near the bathrooms. Officers contacted the 48 year-old woman and found her to be extremely intoxicated. The officer took the woman into custody and took her to the county jail in Martinez to sober up.
March 3rd
Vehicle Collision and Warrant Arrest- 900 block of Avis Drive
At 0628 hours, Officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision without any injuries. An officer contacted a newspaper delivery driver and determined that he sideswiped two parked vehicles while delivering papers. A records check by the officer revealed the driver, a 32 year-old man from Richmond, was unlicensed and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for burglary held by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. The officer arrested the man and booked him at the El Cerrito Police Department prior to transporting him to the county jail in Martinez.
Warrant Arrest- Portola Drive and Liberty Street
At 0657 hours, an alert resident phoned ECPD to report two suspicious persons going through a dumpster in front of a vacant home. Officers contacted both subjects and a records check revealed that they each had warrants for their arrest for narcotics and stolen property violations. The officers arrested a 45 year-old man and a 49 year-old man, both from Richmond, for the warrants. The officers booked the men at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported them to the county jail in Martinez.
Possession of an Altered Replica Pistol and Driving on a Suspended License-
San Pablo Avenue and Madison Avenue
At 1230 hours, an officer noticed a suspicious person in a vehicle loitering around Bank of the West. The officer conducted a traffic stop and noticed a modified replica semi-automatic Beretta pistol on the passenger seat. A records check revealed the man was driving on a suspended license. The officer arrested the 26 year-old man from Richmond and booked him at the El Cerrito Police Department. The man was later released with a citation.
Warrant Arrest- San Pablo Avenue and Blake Avenue
At 1535 hours, an officer riding a dual sport patrol motorcycle noticed a man walking and drinking a beer. The officer contacted the man and a records check revealed the 31 year-old man from Rodeo had an outstanding $10,000 warrant for his arrest for DUI and Driving on a Suspended License. The officer arrested the man and booked him at the El Cerrito Police Department prior to transporting him to the County Jail in Martinez.
Automobile vs. Bicyclist Collision- Waldo Avenue and Liberty Street
At 1549 hours, Officers responded to a vehicle collision involving a bicyclist. Officers found a female bicyclist on the ground that had been sideswiped by a Toyota Prius as they both traveled eastbound no Waldo Avenue. The bicyclist was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.
March 4th
Prowling and Possession of Burglary Tools- Liberty Street at Lincoln Ave.
At 1053 hours, officers arrested a 49 year-old man from Oakland for being in possession of burglary tools and prowling after residents reported seeing the man walking into backyards. A local records check revealed the man was on probation for prowling. The man was booked and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Domestic battery – I-80 / Cutting Blvd.
At approximately 1605 hours, officers were dispatched to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center for a female victim of battery. The officer responded and contacted the victim and her husband, a 58 year-old Pinole man. The man admitted to striking his wife in face during an argument on the freeway. The man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Warrant arrest – 7000 block of Cutting Blvd.
At approximately 0103 hours, an officer conducted a suspicious vehicle check and arrested the driver, a 19 year-old Richmond man for an outstanding warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
March 5th
Stolen Vehicle- 1900 Block of Key Blvd.
At 1357 hours, a parking enforcement officer located a stolen Honda Accord which was abandoned at the above listed location. The Honda was reported stolen to the Oakland Police Department on 02/27.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon- 540 Ashbury Ave., El Cerrito High
At 1312 hours, EC High School Resource Officers arrested an 18 year-old student after he engaged in a fight with another student over the theft of a dollar. As the two fought they went to the ground and the 18 year-old proceeded to punch the victim repeatedly. The 18 year-old then picked up a desk and struck the student on the head causing a moderate size laceration. The 18 year-old was booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Criminal Threats and Disturbing the Peace- 11265 San Pablo Ave., Metro PCS
At 1601 hours, Officers detained a 14 year-old juvenile who challenged a store owner to a fight and then threatened to shoot him. The juvenile was identified by the store owner as being the responsible for several other disturbances. The juvenile was booked at the ECPD and then transported to Juvenile Hall.
Warrant Arrest and Possession of a Controlled Substance- South 55th St. and Creely Ave
At 1307 hours, a 63 year-old Richmond man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and for being in possession of methamphetamine during a traffic enforcement stop. The male was transported to the ECPD for booking and then taken to the hospital to be treated for a pre-existing injury.
Check Fraud- 9800 San Pablo Ave., 9800 San Pablo Ave., Wells Fargo
At 1652 hours, a twenty year-old female from Sacramento attempted to cash a forged check at Wells Fargo. While waiting for the check to be processed the female got nervous and fled the bank leaving behind her driver license and the forged check. The case will be forwarded to the Investigations Division for follow-up.
Warrant arrest – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 2027 hours, an officer responded to the residence of a 47-year-old El Cerrito man and arrested him for an outstanding warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Armed Robbery, Assault with a deadly weapon – BART path at Eureka Ave.
At approximately 2034 hours, officers were dispatched to an armed robbery that occurred. The victim was walking home when he was confronted by three suspects and hit in the back of the head with a blunt object. Two suspects then rummaged through the victim’s pockets while the third held him at gun point. The victim responded home before calling police. The suspects are described as black males in their mid 20’s to early 30’s, 6’0 – 6”2”, unknown build, wearing dark colored jackets with hoods. One of the suspects had a white jacket with narrow black pin striping.
Commercial burglary – 10300 block of San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 2253 hours, an unknown suspect entered a restaurant and paced around the front lobby. The suspect then exited the restaurant and re-entered from the back entrance. The suspect rummaged through the kitchen area and office area before stealing the victim’s wallet. The suspect fled the restaurant on foot. The suspect is described as a black male adult in his 20’s, 5’10”, 170-180, wearing a dark colored baseball hat, dark pants and a dark jacket.
Mental health evaluation – 10200 block of San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 2303 hours, officers were dispatched to the area of Lincoln Ave. / San Pablo Ave. for two people screaming in the area. Officers arrived and found a 33 year-old El Cerrito man standing at the window of his second story apartment. The man displayed severe paranoia and anxiety. The man was determined to be a danger to himself and was committed for a psychiatric evaluation and transported to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
March 6th
Driving under the influence, Vehicle Accident – San Pablo Ave. / Potrero Ave.
At approximately 2058 hours, officers were dispatched to a vehicle accident involving an allied agency vehicle. Officers arrested a 56 year-old Benicia man for driving under the influence of alcohol which caused a collision. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober family member.
Petty theft – 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 1958 hours, officers were dispatched to Safeway for a petty theft that occurred. Officers accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 34 year-old Richmond woman after she failed to pay for merchandise and left the store. The woman was cited in the field and released.
March 7th
Arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance – Potrero Ave. at S. 49th St.
At approximately 1230 hours, during a pedestrian stop, an El Cerrito police officer arrested a 20 year-old male from Richmond for possession of a suspected controlled substance. During booking, the male stated the white crystalline rocks were melted down Vicodin pills. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.
Arrest for evading police officers, hit and run and fleeing from police – I-80 West at Central Ave.
At approximately 1543 hours, while on a separate pedestrian contact, an El Cerrito police officer noticed a vehicle travel southbound on San Pablo Ave. towards Eastshore Blvd. at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which entered I-80 West from Potrero Ave. A vehicle pursuit ensued, but was immediately terminated when speeds reached 90 mph. While terminating the pursuit, the suspect vehicle collided into the center median, spun out and came to rest blocking the two right lanes of westbound I-80 at Central Ave. The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 17 year-old male juvenile from Oakland, fled southbound on Cleveland Ave. which is adjacent to the freeway. A perimeter was set, and an El Cerrito Lieutenant located and arrested the male juvenile as he was exiting Bay Shore Supply in Albany (600 Cleveland Ave.) No other vehicles or persons were injured during the incident. The juvenile was transported to Juvenile Hall in Martinez after he was medically cleared at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
March 8th
Driving under the Influence of an Alcoholic Beverage: - Carlson Blvd. / San Pablo Avenue: At approximately 0122 hours, an officer arrested a 41 year-old, El Cerrito resident for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. She was booked and released on a citation.
Warrant Arrest and Driving on a suspended license. Cutting Blvd./Peerless Avenue: At approximately 0245 hours, a 23-year old man from Antioch was arrested on a DUI warrant during a traffic stop. An investigation revealed the subject was driving on a suspended license. He was issued a citation for the new violations, his vehicle was impounded and he was booked into the Contra Costa County jail on the warrant.
Auto Burglary Arrest– 5600 block of Jordan Ave.
At approximately 0610 hours, the victim called 911 and reported an unknown suspect broke into her vehicle and her husband was chasing the suspect on Ludwig Ave. While enroute to the call, an El Cerrito police officer was flagged down by the victim’s husband on San Pablo Ave. at MacDonald Ave. The suspect was last seen running westbound between Taco Bell and Home Depot. A perimeter was set-up and with the assistance of a Richmond PD K-9 unit, the suspect, a 24 year-old from Oakland, located hiding behind a shed on the east side of Home Depot. The suspect was taken into custody, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Auto Burglary – 600 block of Alvarado Place
Sometime between March 7th 1900 hours to March 8th 0700 hours, an unknown suspect used a pry tool and shattered the front driver side window of the victim’s vehicle. $3.00 was stolen from the vehicle.
Auto Vandalism – 2500 block of Tamalpais Ave.
Between March 7th at 2200 hours to March 8th at 0930 hours, an unknown suspect shattered the front passenger side window of the victim’s vehicle with an unknown tool. No entry was made into the vehicle and no items were missing.
Theft from Auto – 7000 block Cutting Blvd.
Between March 7th at 1700 hours to March 8th 1000 hours, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole a FASTRAK device from the glove compartment.
Run Away Juvenile – 1700 block of Liberty St.
The mother of a 14 year-old female juvenile from El Cerrito reports that after getting into an argument with her daughter, after the juvenile refused to come home after attending a party last night. An El Cerrito police officer was able to contact the female juvenile via telephone, who stated she would go to the Oakland Police Department to wait for her mother there. When the juvenile did not show up at Oakland PD, she was entered into the Missing Persons database.
March 9th
Arrest Warrant – San Pablo Ave. at Eastshore Blvd.
At approximately 1458 hours, during a traffic stop, an El Cerrito police officer arrested a 44 year-old female from Vallejo for an outstanding warrant out of Kern County. The female was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
Auto Burglary – 5920 Cutting Blvd. (Jack in the Box)
Between 1000 hours to 1300 hours, an unknown suspect broke the rear passenger window of the victim’s vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot. The suspect stole the victim’s purse containing miscellaneous items and a large amount of cash.
Possession of a controlled substance: S. 55th Street / School St:
At 2245 hours, an officer arrested a 30 year-old female resident from Richmond for possession of a small quantity of methamphetamine during a bicycle stop. The woman was released after booking.
Possession of a controlled substance – Parole Violation 6009 Potrero Avenue
At approximately 2309 hours, a 33 year-old San Pablo man was arrested for possession of a small quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The man was also on parole and booked into the county jail on a parole violation.
