Notable Cases

On Monday, 02-24-14 at 1:29 p.m., officers responded to the parking lot area of Westlake Park on a report of three subjects with a rope tied to something and possibly being involved in a theft. Officer Brian Melville arrived first and saw a subject who was holding a box cutter and was stripping off insulation from several coils of copper and aluminum wire. The 23-year old subject said he was given the wire by his stepfather the previous day and was stripping off the insulation as the recyclers pay more money for the wire. Officer Melville noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The subject claimed he didn’t smoke it, but that his friends who were there did. The officer opened the door and saw the black handle of a knife wedged between the driver’s seat and the center console. The knife was six inches long. The subject said he uses the knife as protection, as he is homeless and is living out of his vehicle. The subject was cited and released for being in possession of a dirk or dagger.

On Wednesday, 02-26-14 at 10:14 p.m., officers were dispatched to the unit block of Rio Verde Street on a report of a vehicle burglary in progress. The reporting party said a male was last seen wearing dark clothing and running towards Geneva Avenue. Officer Lilian Tashiro found a subject matching the description in the area. The subject, a 46-year old transient, had the victim’s property in his possession. He was arrested for auto burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance and for a parole violation.

On Thursday, 02-27-14, at 1:31 a.m., Officer Ed Gregorio stopped a subject walking in the area of South Parkview Avenue and Woodrow Street. The subject had on a hood and was carrying a dark bag. Due to the recent rash of auto burglaries and auto thefts throughout the city, Officer Gregorio wanted to know what the subject was doing. The subject had a felony no-bail warrant for drug charges from San Francisco. The subject insisted it wasn’t him. With the help from the San Francisco Police Department, his identity was confirmed, along with the comparison to a Mexican identification card he had in his possession. The subject, a 49-year old Daly City resident, had eluded the police for 16 years before being arrested.

The victim said he went to pay a bill and was in the parking lot when he was approached by two unidentified male subjects who told him to “give me the money.” He said one subject brandished a black handgun at him. He said he reached inside his jacket pocket and gave his money to the suspects. He said the suspect got into a black two-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Impala. The victim described the three subjects as black male adults in their 30’s to 40’s. The subject with the gun was wearing a black beanie, black long jacket, black jeans and black colored boots. The victim waited nearly an hour to report the crime. This investigation is continuing.

On Friday, 02-28-14 at 1:13 p.m., a 37-year old male was the victim of robbery at the Cow Palace. The victim said there was a tent sale going on, and a group of people came into the tent area and began to “heavily fill” bags with clothing. Some of the subjects attempted to walk out of the tent without paying for the bags of clothing. The victim said as he attempted to stop a female subject from leaving, the female subject then turned and kicked him several times in the leg. The loss was an unknown amount of clothing. The subject was described as an African American female, late teens to early 20’s, 5’6”, 110 lbs., dark complexion, skinny build, with black hair pulled back with braids.
