OFF-ROAD GRANT FOR ANTELOPE VALLEY SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM

The Antelope Valley Search and Rescue Team is a not for profit 501(C)(3) organization that works under the direct supervision of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is an all volunteer unit comprised of 31 men and women, which are both reserve deputies and civilian volunteers.

The Antelope Valley Search and Rescue Team is looking for comments from Antelope Valley residents about the Antelope Valley Search and Rescue Team’s grant application. Antelope Valley Search and Rescue Team is applying for a grant through the California Parks and Recreation Department to assist with the costs of equipping the team with off-road equipment, such as all-terrain vehicles, helmets, trailers and protective gear.

Last year the Antelope Valley Search and Rescue Team logged over 7500 hours of search and rescue operations including fire evacuations, swift water rescue, missing person searches, often times in areas inaccessible by vehicle. The Antelope Valley Search and Rescue Team covers over 1800 square miles of desert and mountain areas of the Antelope Valley, including areas of the Angeles National Forest. The team is also on call to respond state wide to assist other search and rescue agencies.

The state grant program allows for a 30 day public comment and review. The grant request can be viewed by members of the public at, www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. Comments on the application must be received by April 7, 2014. The public may provide comments to the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station and to state park officials by emailing [email protected] and CC to [email protected].
