Advisory

Subject Arrested for Resisting Arrest and Battery on a Peace Officer and Emergency Personnel

On February 19, 2014, CMPD officers responded to the 200 block of Cabrillo Street regarding the call of a male yelling, cursing, and causing a disturbance. Upon their arrival, officers contacted Jason Beverly and a female subject. Both had been drinking and admitted to “sparring” with each other to test their strength. As Beverly was sitting on the curb talking to officers, he spontaneously attacked one officer by standing up and lunging at the officer. Upon seeing Beverly assault his partner, the second officer responded and took Beverly to the ground. As the officers began trying to take Beverly into custody, he became extremely combative.

At one point, officers were required to deploy a Taser to subdue Beverly. He was ultimately taken into custody, remained combative, and had to be transported to Hoag via ambulance because of his uncooperative demeanor. At Hoag, hospital staff removed the Taser probes on Beverly, who then also assaulted emergency room staff.

Beverly was subsequently booked into the CMPD Jail after being medically cleared. He is being charged with PC 69 – Obstructing/Resisting an Executive Officer and PC 243(B) – Battery Upon an Officer & Emergency Personnel (x2).
