Advisory

Goffstown Fire alert: Clear chimneys/exhaust to prevent carbon monoxide build up in the building. Wall vents prone to be blocked by snow.

“Goffstown Fire Department reminds residents to address the following winter Safety Concerns:
• Clear roofs of excessive snow and ice buildup, being careful not to damage roofing or utility (gas and oil) services to the building. Clearing a roof can be dangerous and should be left to professionals. When using a roof rake is recommended remember to stay clear of electrical lines.
• Keep all chimneys, vents, and exhaust points clear to prevent carbon monoxide from backing up into the building. Special care should be taken with horizontal vents, such as pellet stove vents and power vents, that exit the building through a wall and are prone to being blocked by snow buildup on the outside of the building.
• Keep all exits clear of snow, so that occupants can escape quickly if a fire, or other emergency, should occur. Keep in mind that windows should be cleared to allow a secondary means of escape in case the primary means of escape is blocked by fire. “
